Father, help me to focus on what’s important. Open my heart to your Word.
READ: Luke 15:21-24
21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.
It’s party time!! The father is so excited to see his son and so overjoyed by his presence that he calls for a celebration. Wouldn’t you love to see the look on the boy’s face? Just days earlier, he was ready to eat pig slop. Now he’s being celebrated! Before the son can even launch into his speech (that I’m sure he had practiced hundreds of times before arriving!) the father cuts him off (v 22). You see it didn’t matter to the father what his son had done. It mattered that he had come home. No matter what we’ve done or what we’ve gone through, God is always there to welcome us back home. And he doesn’t just welcome us back; he’s ready to throw a party and celebrate!
What was it like when you were found and became a follower of Jesus? Did a celebration occur? When was the last time you celebrated someone, who came back to Jesus?
Father, thank you for not only welcoming home sinners, but celebrating when someone is found. Help us to celebrate those who come home to you!
