Father, help me never to doubt and to look forward to a new home with you.
Read: John 14:1-7
Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Jesus’ disciples were struggling mightily to understand what He was telling them. Jesus explains that He will be betrayed, denied and suffer greatly. Of course Jesus speaks the truth always but in these verses He brings comforting words through several miraculous and astonishing promises. God is preparing a huge house in heaven with many rooms for everyone who will come to the Father through His Son. Jesus will come back to take us to heaven where He will also be with us. Jesus promises that He IS and WILL BE the way, the truth and the life. He’s the only true path to finding the Father and knowing the Father—to see Jesus is to see God! When our hearts are troubled, how should Jesus’ promises give us hope, peace and comfort? Every day we should look forward to heaven’s many rooms knowing Jesus is making preparations for us even now. We must continually rejoice in knowing Jesus Christ as the way, the truth and the life—He’s like no one else!
Take specific steps this week to keep these promises of Jesus in front of you (memorize or write them out) to live purposefully here knowing heaven is ahead! Who do you know that needs to know this hope, comfort and purpose only found through Jesus who is the Way, the Truth and the Life? Tell them about Jesus today and show them with your life who He is!
Jesus, make your way, truth life apparent and attractive through me.
