Living Out a Healthy Lifestyle - Part 2

Read: 1 Corinthians 6: 12-13
12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
Your body is amazing! It does so much for you, even when you are completely still. The heart is pumping oxygenated blood throughout your body and your lungs are filling with air as you read this. God created your body and through His Son has made it a temple of the Holy Spirit. We are now ambassadors of the Gospel and our bodies help us do this. But how often are we mistreating our bodies with how we eat? In v. 12 Paul tells us we have the right to do anything-but not everything is good for us. God doesn’t want us to have a flippant attitude about food or a laser-focused attitude about food. He created food for our enjoyment, but it should not become a hinderance to the work He set out for us to do. Choosing food that honors our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit allows us to live a life of freedom and strength.
Reflect on your eating habits and brainstorm ways you can treat food in a healthy way. Make one choice today to honor your body.
Father, thank you for all my body does for me! May I honor it in the choices that I make so I can live out the mission you have called me to.
