Living Out Strong Relationships - Part 3

Opening Prayer:

Dear Lord, fill my heart with joy that out of it beneficial words would flow. Amen

Read: Ephesians 4:29

29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

&%$#!! It's happened to the best of us. I can remember the first time I accidentally repeated one of these types of words. I was about 7 years old and was watching a movie with my family. I was enthralled with the movie and repeated an inappropriate line from it. Oops! Let's just say from my dad's reaction, I knew that my talk was "unwholesome" and was careful at which movie lines I chose to quote!

This is bigger than just dialing down our language or avoiding dirty words. Paul is right on target with what experts today recommend if you want to make a change. Don't just stop doing something bad; replace something bad with something good. The same applies to our words. Our words should be chosen for encouraging others. Where can you replace "unwholesome talk" for words that build up and benefit others?

Closing Prayer:

Dear Lord, through the Bible you have given us so many words that build us up. Help me to choose my words that I am benefiting those who listen. Amen
