Does God Value Me?

Opening Prayer:

God, I feel so small and so weak in the face of a world that is so very big and so very harsh.  Help me to claim, in fullest measure, my place as Your child and the object of Your love.

Read:  Matthew 6:25-26

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:25–26, NIV)

Reflect:

We are surrounded by a culture that believes that only the material world is real and that any value we assign to ourselves or others is only what we choose to assign.  Understandably and predictably, this has led many into the valley of despair and left them without hope or any sense of purpose.  It has also led many to lack the ability to love.  They have become stunted, afraid and disappointed with life.

There is an alternative to this modern world view.  It starts with coming to a saving belief in Jesus as God’s Son, who gave us a message from His Father.  We are loved by the God, who knows all things about all people and even animals.  We should accept His message as authoritative and true because He proved beyond doubt that He was Himself God.  His proof was this:  He was murdered and buried as a ruined corpse.  After this, He came back to life.  The Bible and other documents from that time provide eye witness accounts from many people who died rather than their testimony about what they had seen and experienced.  Instead of the Jesus movement dying out with Him, it flourished and grew into a worldwide religion based on the fact of the Resurrection and power of Jesus’ message.  The historical fact of this resurrection cannot be argued away by any sensible means.  It is only the length of time since it happened that makes it seem less true, but we all believe in Cleopatra and Julius Caesar.  Time does not diminish the reality of what happened.

There is a very easy means by which you can strengthen your faith in the truth about Jesus and the reality that we are loved just as John 3:16 says:  God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die that we might be saved.  We must turn our spiritual eyes on Jesus and look full in His wonderful face so that the things of Earth grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and Grace.  We do this by giving Him time in our daily lives that we use to read the Bible, especially the Gospels; to pray and meditate on Him, and to spend time with other Christians so that we can encourage one another.  As you look on Him, the fact of His love will be established within you first as a spark, but finely as a raging fire that will burn away the gloom of unbelief and replace it with Jesus, the light of the World.

Apply:

We must make it a priority in our daily lives to feed on the bread of life which, for us, is the Bible; seek God knowing that He is a rewarder of those who earnestly seek Him, and make Him the sovereign Lord of our lives.

Closing Prayer:

God, I want to love you more than anything else in life and grow in my relationship with You.  As I read your Word and meditate on You, help me to have spiritual eyes that see and spiritual ears that hear.  Help me to enter into a personal, spiritual relationship with You that is my birthright as Your child.
