Rewards in Heaven - Day 3

Father, let us look into Your Word that brings us truth and freedom. May we have strength to focus today and leave our problems at Your feet.

READ: 1 John 5:11-12, NIV

11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”

There’s a story in Acts 16 about something really cool that God did. Paul and Silas, two leaders of the Gospel, are in chains for preaching what they believe. Even in jail they are worshipping God and sharing the Gospel. One night, God sends an earthquake to shake the jail, and all the prisoners’ chains are broken. In remorse, the jailer thinks it would be better to kill himself than deal with the shame of all the prisoners escaping. But Paul shouts at him to stop because they are all still there. Trembling, the jailer calls to Paul and Silas to himself. He asks them, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” Paul presents the beautiful truth that coincides with our reading today in verse 31: “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.” We want to gain eternal life and 1 John tells us plainly that this life is only found in the Son of God. How do we “have the Son” as the verse says? Believe in Him. Thus, you will be saved: gaining eternal life. This life eternal means freedom, joy, and love in Heaven with God.

Have you believed in the Lord Jesus? Truly believed? The gift of eternal life is that simple: to believe in the Son of life and light.

God, wow. You are so amazing. Through your Son, we have gained eternal life that we can share through the Gospel everywhere we go! Thank you.
