Rewards in Heaven - Day 4

OPENING PRAYER:

Father, we place our worries and troubles at Your feet. We lay our burdens before You because we know You can handle them all. Right now, we focus on You and ask that You would speak to our hearts today.

READ: Ephesians 1:13-14, NIV

13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.”

REFLECT:

I spend a lot of time in awe of the time that Christ walked on this earth. All the things He did were amazing: the miracles, the discipleship, the teaching, and eventually the crucifixion. I wish that I could have been there; maybe life would be easier living with Him right next to me. But Jesus Himself said something to contradict this wish of mine. The disciples were perplexed as He talked about leaving them. In John 16:6-7 it says, “You are filled with grief because I have said these things. But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” Jesus then goes on to talk about the wonderful things the Holy Spirit will do in our hearts and on this earth. The Holy Spirit is our Advocate and our Intermediary on this earth. The Spirit is also a promise for the inheritance of Heaven, as we read in Ephesians. Jesus knew that the Holy Spirit could do more powerful things on this earth than even He could. The Holy Spirit communicates with us always and Jesus’ death and resurrection brought the Spirit to us. So now we are sealed. God has “called dibs” on us. He didn’t leave us here to wait around lazily. He gave us this Spirit that allows us to have spiritual gifts and power. The Spirit speaks to us and speaks for us when we don’t know how to pray (Romans 8:26). What an amazing gift that points us to the promise of Heaven!

CLOSING PRAYER:
