Make a Way for the One: Week 3 - Day 1
Father, may my heart and mind be open and ready to hear your Word today. Show me your way.
Read: Mark 2:3 (ESV)
“And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men.”
We’ve all had that friend, that one who was in desperate need. Maybe it was poor health, or a lack of finances, or children with challenging problems, or a toxic relationship. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed trying to determine how to best help them. If you’re a “fixer”, you may try to jump in and offer quick fixes with steps 1-2-3 to correct the situation. Yet we know life is more complex than that. All of our human “fixes” may be for naught and the challenge may remain.
In this passage from this weekend’s services, we see not one, not two, not three, but four friends who were looking for a “fix” for their paralyzed friend. They were coming together seeking healing from Jesus for their friend. Each of them jumped in to do their part and as a team, their only goal was to see restoration for this friend. Their effort together was more than any one of them could do alone.
In 1 Corinthians 3:6, Paul writes, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.” Such a perfect example of hands, feet, arms, head, eyes…all parts of the body coming together to bring people to Jesus for His salvation. There’s no person greater or lesser as the Body of Christ works side by side to fulfill the Great Commission. Each one is vital to God’s purpose for us on this earth. Today, come alongside your brothers and sister in Christ and work to plant and water for God’s kingdom.
Lord, I praise you for how you’ve made me with gifts that are vital for building your kingdom. Help me not to squander those gifts, but to step out in faith and use them alongside fellow followers of Jesus. May we carry the broken and lost to the feet of the One who saved me. Thank you, Father!
