Make a Way for the One: Week 4 - Day 4
Lord, please open my heart to receive the word you would have me hear today.
Read: Luke 19:5-9 (NIV)
“When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.’ So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.
All the people saw this and began to mutter, ‘He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.’
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, ‘Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.’
Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.’”
Today is a day when we are reminded to be thankful. Imagine how thankful Zacchaeus was when the Lord recognized him in that tree and told him he wanted to spend time with him. As a tax collector, Zacchaeus had probably developed a sense of being disconnected from his neighbors and others that most would consider to be friends because of his job. Out of his thankful heart generosity flows.
Most of the people that surround us are looking to see if there is truly a better way to live their lives. Some are more incognito than others, but Jesus still desires to give them a place in his kingdom. All they need is to see us living in such a way that God’s grace and love shine through.
Father, help me to live my life so that those who are watching me will see only you at work in me.
