Christmas - Peace - Day 10

Opening Prayer:

Dear Lord, show us how to bring You joy in this season and always.  In Your name, amen.

Read: Zephaniah 3:15b-17 NLT

 “And the Lord himself, the King of Israel, will live among you! At last your troubles will be over, and you will never again fear disaster. On that day the announcement to Jerusalem will be, “Cheer up, Zion! Don’t be afraid! For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

Reflect:

Christmas is the time of year we focus on Immanuel, God with us.  This passage enumerates what that means.  The Life Application Bible reflects on this passage this way: “The Lord himself will…come to live among his people. He will give them gladness.” Zephaniah points out that gladness results when we allow God to be with us, by faithfully following him and obeying his commands. “Then God rejoices over us with singing.”

 The Lord rejoices with us with joyful songs??  Now that’s a new thought to me!  What might result in Divine singing?

 In a Christmas season that has become so commercial and Christ has been crowded out of Christ—mas, what can we do to bring the Lord gladness?

 I have felt Him closest when I have observed unselfish service and giving. When we were volunteering at the Salvation Army Angel Tree at the mall, my heart warmed when I saw many parents bringing their preschool and elementary age children to the site to pick up tags to buy presents for needy children.  It was even more heart-warming when they brought the presents back and you could see the smiles on the children’s faces as they handed the presents to us.  God must have been rejoicing with joyful songs!

 We can truly have happiness and peace this Christmas because God is with us, taking delight as we reach out to serve others during this Christmas season.

Apply:

It will be easiest to feel the closeness of God with you if you and your family can do a serving project together.  Take advantage of the many opportunities provided by the Heart to Heart program at Pathway.  Also get together with your Home Team for a Christmas serving event. As you are serving with your family and others you will definitely feel the joy of the season celebrating the birth of Immanuel, God with us.  Imagine God rejoicing with joyful songs!!  Sing some yourself!

Closing Prayer:

In our hearts, Lord, we sing “Joy to the world! The Lord is come;

Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room, and heaven and nature sing!!”

We praise You Immanuel—for coming to our hearts as our King!
