Christmas - Hope - Day 4

Opening Prayer:

Dear Lord as we continue our journey through this Christmas season we pray that you will reinforce in us the Hope that comes from believing in Your son Jesus, Immanuel, God with us.  In His name, amen.

Read: John 1:9-12

“The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

Reflect:

Today we take a closer look at the true light that created the world.  The Message gives us a clear picture of the Light in verse 10.  ““The Life-Light was the real thing: Every person entering Life he brings into Light. He was in the world, the world was there through him, and yet the world didn’t even notice.”  Even though the Light created the individuals in the world, as a whole they rejected Him.

It’s so easy during this Christmas season to get lost in the busy-ness of it.  There is so much to do—parties to go to, shopping, etc.  The shopping is one of the most difficult things to do because we all already have so much. Are we forgetting the reason for the season?  Our focus is taken off Jesus and God and on us as individuals.  While we still believe in Jesus; are we rejecting Him through our focus, worrying about these worldly, material things?

Apply:

Remember the fresh start in life can only happen if we have made a commitment to Christ and believe that through His sacrifice we can have the eternal life He promises.  The Hope we can have at this season of the year comes through this belief in Immanuel, Christ with us.  Once we have made this commitment we must stay focused on Him, no matter how busy or frustrated we get throughout this season.

Closing Prayer:

Our Lord Jesus, help us not reject You during this busy season by having our focus diverted to all of the world’s trappings, but to stay focused on You as our true Light.  In Your name, amen.
