From Agony to Eagerness - Part 1
Dear Father, may your Word bear much fruit through my life as I continue to learn what it looks like to step out in generosity in your plan. Amen
Read: 2 Corinthians 8:2
“for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part.” (English Standard Version)
Have you ever known that person who had very little yet continually poured out to others from their meager means? It’s quite humbling to watch. We often think of those who are well off financially, giving in ways we could only dream, yet God sees with very different eyes. He sees the sacrificial gift offered with little left. He sees the offering given despite the lack of abundant finances. It’s easy to give out of our excess, yet more difficult to give when our needs seem larger than our bank account. In the middle of it all, the Father reminds us that our generosity brings overwhelming joy to Him…the one who gave up His most precious son despite the cost.
Struggling to keep up with the Jones’, and what we think we should give, is a quick way to lose our joy in giving God our best. Today, seek Him, and ask Him for wisdom about being generous in His economy. He may ask for more than you think you can give. He may ask that you trust He will provide for your needs. Taking that first step of faith is scary and uncertain, but until we step outside our comfort zone, we may miss the really great part of growing and changing to be more like Jesus…who gave it all.
Lord, I am unfinished and I trust you. I desire to give everything you want from me, but there are a lot of unknowns. Help me to step out in faith, knowing you have a plan for me. Help me to be generous with the resources you’ve entrusted to me. I know you’ll be faithful to provide everything I need. I love you! Amen
