Make Your Mark - Week 1 - Day 2
Father God, open my eyes to your Word. I humble myself before you to learn and grow where you want to take me. Amen!
Read: Acts 4:12-13
“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” (ESV)
Peter and John were on trial for a great miracle in Acts 3, but what the religious leaders noticed was the power of Christ in their lives to use ordinary people. A lame man was given full use of his legs, not by their power, but because of the power and authority given to them by Jesus. The two men didn’t take any credit for the healing for themselves, but rather kept pointing back to the God of the universe whose power they had just witnessed. Here they were, normal everyday people, being used by God to fulfill his plan and draw people to himself. All these men had to do was quit overthinking and just keep putting one foot in front of the other on the path God was leading them on.
How about you? Do you feel like you don’t have anything to offer to God? Maybe you feel you’re the most ordinary person ever, with no exceptional gifts and talents to offer up for God’s use. If that’s your thoughts, re-read today’s passage. There wasn’t anything extraordinary about these men. They just said “yes” and God took their willingness and turned it into a victory for the Kingdom. Don’t be afraid to step into God’s greatness and his great plans for you. The good stuff happens outside our comfort zone.
Lord, I thank you for Peter and John and their willingness to get uncomfortable. Please provide for me the opportunities to step into your great plans and to do it with humility and a willingness to go and do whatever you ask. Amen!
