Don’t Short Circuit God’s Power

Opening Prayer:

God help me to understand that I can accomplish big things for your kingdom because your power is at work within me. I don’t want to short circuit awesome displays of your power in my life by sticking to those things I can accomplish on my own.

 

Read:

Ephesians 3:20 -21 NIV “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

 

Reflect:

Few verses in the bible are more convicting to me then the verse above. While I would never directly state that I don’t think God is powerful, my thoughts and actions nevertheless often communicate the idea. Ever decided against praying for someone or sharing Jesus with someone because they are “unreachable”? I have. What about decided against volunteering at church because you just don’t think you have what it takes? Do you ever get in a tough spot at work or at home and instead of turning to God for help or praying you just buckle down and try harder? All these behaviors are a demonstration that we don’t really believe God can do big things in and through us. Have you ever stopped to consider what the world might look like if we all dreamed big knowing that God is at work within us to accomplish God size goals? 

 

Apply:

God gets the glory when we do things that are bigger than ourselves or outside of ourselves. It’s difficult for others to see God at work when you stick to things your good at. Are you good at public speaking? If so, giving a speech in front of a lot of people likely isn’t going to manifests God’s power but it will manifest your own. When’s the last time you engaged in some sort of activity that you know could only be accomplished with God’s help? Furthermore, when was the last time you saw God doing things greater than you could imagine? If you are not seeing God do things that are greater than you can imagine than you aren’t imagining great things. 

 

Closing Prayer:

God thank you for empowering us to accomplish great thing for your Kingdom that your name be praised throughout all the generations.
