Fear Not…The Lord is at Work!

Opening Prayer:

Heavenly Father, when I consider all your marvelous works and how great your faithfulness is, I can’t help but continually give you thanks for all your mighty deeds. As you work in our lives, may I sense your presence and recognize your goodness in all of it.

Read: Judges 13:22-23, NIV

“We are doomed to die!” he said to his wife. “We have seen God!” 23 But his wife answered, “If the Lord had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and grain offering from our hands, nor shown us all these things or now told us this.”

As a young boy, when I would stay at my grandmother’s house, it would seem scary at night. She lived on a lake and she would leave the windows open to get a cool breeze to come through, but it also let in the noises of frogs croaking and other strange sounds of the night! When she came in to check on me and tuck me in, she would recite the Lord’s Prayer and encourage me to know God was always by my side. Her words always lifted my spirits then and gave me peace to lay down and sleep for the night. Today, there are many other noises and things that might spark fear in your life. Perhaps a doctor’s diagnosis awaits you and the results could be devastating. Maybe it’s not knowing where your teenager is hanging out. Perhaps you are up for a promotion and its between you and another. How do we quiet those fears?

God’s word is full of reminders to trust and rely on Him and to turn our fears over to him. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)– “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” Isaiah 43:1-2 (NIV) says “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

So fear not, the Lord has your best interests in mind. He said He would never leave you nor forsake you, so stand on His promises!

Consider that one thing in your life that is really tugging on you, keeping you up at night or even causing division and strife in your home. Give that one thing to the Lord and watch what happens! He will use that to mature you, grow you and grow in reliance on him. II Corinthians 1:8-9 (NIV) – “We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. Indeed, in our hearts, we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.”

Closing Prayer:

Dear God, we know that perfect love casts out all fear and that you are love. Teach us to lean more on you, trust more in you and know that you’ll never leave us nor forsake us. Thank you Heavenly Father for protecting me and my family!
