The Fine Art of Failure: Week 4 - Day 2

OPENING PRAYER:

Father, I open my heart to you today. As I read these words from your Scriptures, I pray that I would be encouraged and convicted by the story of Gideon.

READ: judges 7:15, NIV

15 When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he bowed down and worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel and called out, “Get up! The Lord has given the Midianite camp into your hands.”

REFLECT:

After God had given Gideon many signs, in his patience he encourages him further. Gideon, with his servant Purah, overhears the Midianites talking about a dream. It was a prophetic dream about how Israel would overtake them in battle and win. Even the Midianites were able to see that God’s blessing was on Israel. Through all of Gideon’s doubts, God proved himself faithful. Gideon’s story shows us again and again not to put the Lord our God to the test. We know better. The stories and legacies of faith in the Bible show us who God is. We don’t have to belittle him by asking for signs. It’s a way of putting him in a box. The Lord is incredible and speaks to us in so many different ways. Most of the time it is through his Word. The scriptures were chosen by God before the beginning of time to speak to and encourage us today. We know of the ultimate sign - a sign that would silence all others - in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.
