The Fine Art of Failure: Week 4 - Day 5
Father, thank you for a new day to follow you. Help me to focus and hear what you have to say to me today.
READ:Luke 9:19-24, NIV
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.” Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone. And he said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.” Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.
When Jesus asked his disciples who they thought he was, they were conflicted in their answers. They told him of the rumors people were spreading about who he was. Only Peter answered correctly, when he called Jesus the Messiah. People in Jesus’ time didn’t fully understand who he was. Maybe you’re still trying to find out who Jesus is. Do you really believe that he is who he says he is? We end up wrestling with doubts and questions. We may look at the “perfect” Christians around us, and they don’t seem to have any questions themselves. Thus, we become afraid to ask questions ourselves. The truth is that everyone struggles with doubts or fears. Faith takes time and strengthening to grow. It also takes a lot of questions in the trials to help it take root. Never be afraid to admit that you are afraid or doubtful to God. In all honesty, he already knows. He cares about you deeply and he will guide you to the truth. When your faith is weak, you can rely on him to grow it. God may be calling you to do something for him, and you feel afraid. You may push away the calling and think it belongs to someone more “qualified”. But the best way to grow your faith is to get out of your comfort zone and be obedient.
What doubts do you have in your life right now? What’s holding you back from obeying God in faith? Identify one and replace it with truth.
God, I lay before you all my fears and doubts. I pray that in your Mighty Name, you would quench them with your truth.
