You Can Live Well - Day 2
Lord, please open my heart to receive the word you would have me hear today.
Read: Titus 2:3-4 (HCSB)
“In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to much wine. They are to teach what is good, so they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children…”
My wife and I became members of our church when we were young in our marriage. When our children began arriving, one of the neatest ministries we encountered was the weekly program for mothers and preschoolers. Older women in the church took time out of their week to share life lessons with young moms. They also provided a safe place with loving caregivers to take care of the children so these young women could catch their breath, have some social networking time, and learn Biblical knowledge as well as practical skills they could use in their everyday lives. To me, this is what Paul was trying to encourage Titus to help the women under his care to strive for.
As we have matured, my wife has taken the opportunities given to her to put her faith into action by serving as a mentor and by giving her time and resources to helping a new generation of younger women learn the lessons she was taught so many years ago. To me, this is the church in action, continuing the cycle of sharing our faith in a way that leads others to grow in their faith.
Father, as you lead us to grow and mature, help us to see how we may share our faith in practical ways with others who are also learning how to live a life pleasing to you.
