You Can Work Well - Day 5

Lord, thank you for the fresh start of each new day. Help me be aware of your presence and give me a will to live for you today.  Amen

READ:  Colossians 3:23

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” (New Living Translation)

God has been interested in a relationship founded on free will from the beginning of creation. In the Garden of Eden, God gave Adam and Eve a choice about obeying the command not to eat fruit from the tree placed in the center of the garden. Created for fellowship, man’s choice was the difference in meaningful relationship and an empty one. Compelling us to live according to his will is much like when we force our children to tell a sibling they are sorry for something they did. Both lack the sincerity that gives weight to the effort.

In Titus, we see Paul reference the will to work in a way that blesses the Lord.  He also mentions free will in a couple of other areas – being a cheerful giver and freely serving as an elder in the church rather than under compulsion.  The spirit in which we approach life matters to God. By our will to follow well, we bless the Lord.

Doing things as though we were personally doing them for the Lord yields two-fold fruit – we bless the Lord and we represent Him well in the world around us.

Father God, my desire is to bless you in all that I do. Help me in my work today to do it in a way that reflects well on you and causes others to consider who you are.  I love you and want to bless you with my life.  Amen.
