Restart - Day 5
Search my heart today God. I want to pursue you only until I see you face to face.
Read: Philippians 3:13-14 (NASB)
13 “Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Sometimes looking back can be a positive thing. We remember the good things about our childhood or wedding day or a job accomplishment. Those great memories are part of who we are and what makes our family unique. However, focusing on the past can also be a block to moving forward with Christ. The Apostle Paul talked about his family heritage, his vocational training, his religious zeal, and said if any of these things were a gain in his life he would view them as a loss for the sake of Christ. All his accomplishments were nothing in comparison to the privilege of knowing Jesus. Have we allowed our education or our career or even our religious knowledge to compete with the call of God on our lives? What are we relying on from the past that God is challenging us to leave behind? Nothing that God calls you to leave in the past will compare to what he has in front of you. Step out in faith today and know that reaching forward with Christ will surpass anything you have experienced in the past. Don’t look back!
What is one thing you are holding on to from your past? Ask God to show you how to release it and move forward. Tell a close friend today the decision you have made and give them permission to check with you periodically to see how you are doing in your pursuit of God’s call.
God, I want to leave behind anything from my past that is holding me back from following you fully. Please show me today where I need to change. Help me to press forward until I see your power and love in my life. Amen.
