Field of Dreams - Day 3

Opening Prayer:

Dear Lord, am I Cain or Abel? Do I give you what is OK or do I faithfully give you the best? Gently reveal this to me today.

Read: Hebrews 11:4 (NIV)

4 “By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.”

Reflect:

In Genesis 4 we learn about the brothers Cain and Abel. Abel faithfully gave the Lord fat from the firstborn of his flock; Cain gave God some fruit. After God rebuked Cain for his paltry offering (and warning that sin was at the door), Cain lured Abel to the field, attacked and killed him.

Genesis 10 The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.”

How can faith speak in death? Look at Galatians 2:20 , “I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” The good news for the Christian is we live, even if we die.

Apply:

Set your sights on things eternal. Are your offerings pleasing to God?

Closing Prayer:

Dear Lord, today make me like Abel in faith, giving you the best that is yours. What do earthly things matter in light of your eternal glory?
