Restart - Day 2

Opening Prayer:

Heavenly Father, reveal to me through your Word your thoughts and plans.  I want to know you more than I want anything else in my life.

Read:  Ephesians 4:22-23 (NIV)

22 “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Reflect:

Sometimes in our Christian walk we become frustrated and wonder if we will ever change into that new person that looks more like Jesus.   In life, we always want a quick recipe or formula for success.  You know the things you see on a magazine cover, “Three easy steps that will change your life forever”.  Most of the time those 3 steps don’t work out so well.  Thankfully, God is not like the latest magazine or self-help book and his ways do work to bring permanent change in our lives.  In today’s, verse we see one of the keys to putting off the old life and putting on the new is to focus on mind renewal.  Our actions and attitudes flow out of our thought life.  What is my mind focused on? What I am thinking about all day? Does it reflect God’s ways or self?  Two things that will help us make progress with our thought life is time in God’s Word and time with God’s people. The Bible teaches us what God thinks and what’s important to him. As we meditate on and apply scripture, we will begin to see more of that that new self.   Time spent with God’s people who are further down the road helps us to see God’s life in action.  Hanging around people who love and serve Jesus really changes our mindset and motivates us to act as well.  Remember when the “old self” wants to creep back in, refocus your mind and see what God does through you.

 Apply:

God loves you and has a great assignment for your life.  Do you believe it?  Do you have a plan that is day by day renewing your mind to God’s truth.  Take today’s verse and think about it as much as your schedule allows.  Watch your mind and heart change as you have God’s word as the focus of your day.

Closing Prayer:

Change my mind and my heart, God, to be like yours.  May my actions flow out of my love for you.
