FOR... The Forgotten - Day 3
Lord, as I come to you today, please open my heart to your word.
Read: Matthew 25:37-38 (NIV)
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?”
We are a literal lot! You probably know the verse that follows this (and that we will cover tomorrow). Let’s take a minute and get in the minds of these righteous believers.
For the righteous, for those for whom taking care of the forgotten is a way of life, they may not see that what they are doing for the needy is done for Jesus himself. They are either acting out of a command or, more likely, the love they feel for others, is manifested in the love they have for God. And when the righteous love others, service follows. Always. It’s a natural progression. We care for what we “agape”.
Consider your “why’s”. Why do you help the people you do? Why them, and why in that way?
Lord, help me to focus on you and my love for you. I want that love and gratitude to be evident when I help and serve others.
