Unfinished Life: Week 2 - Day 4 - Selfless

Opening Prayer:

Dear Jesus, bring us together as one, like you prayed in John 17.  We know you are one with the father. Make us one with each other.  Amen.

Read: Hebrews 10:25 (NIV)

“…not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching..”

There's an old chorus we used to sing that goes something like this.  “Bind us together with cords that cannot be broken. Bind us together with love.”   In the beginning, God said it is not good that man be alone”. (Genesis 2:18). Thus, he created woman. The first family... The first church...  Only one chapter later, Satan is determined to destroy this union and hence the fall of mankind and the blame game is revealed.  It’s interesting to see that in the following three verses, Genesis 3:10-13, there are close to ten references of me, myself, and I.

Selfishness is a direct result of the fall and is at the root of sin. God, on the other hand, would have the last word and with his immediate promise of a redeemer our redemption was introduced! (Genesis 3:15).  Satan knows that as we unite, we have great potential.  His goal will always be to break the cord that binds us together, but God's strand of love is not easily broken. (Ecclesiastics 4:12).   Where will love and encouragement come if we don't have each other? Let's learn from the mistakes of Adam and Eve, and not let selfishness take control. Surrender by offering love and encouragement to others.  United we stand, divided we fall.

Closing Prayer:

Thank you for the gift of each other.  Help us to allow your spirit to flow through us to those who need your love and encouragement.  Amen.
