Detox: Week 1 - Unwillingness - Day 2

Opening Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, let us be open to see what you want for our lives today.

Read: Genesis 15:1 (NIV)

After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: ‘Do not be afraid, Abram.
I am your shield, your very great reward.’”

Reflect:

Abram had just led a great army of men to retrieve his nephew Lot. After Abram rescued Lot and the possessions were taken, the king of Sodom told him to take what he wanted from his city as well. Abram refused because he had made an oath to the Lord to take nothing but what his men had eaten. Soon after, God told Abram he would give him what he really wanted, children.  Abram believed the Lord and although he had to wait many years to see that happen, it did.   How powerful that statement is, “I am your shield, your very great reward” and I will bless you, just hold on.  The Lord promises that what he starts he will finish for good.  Just don’t be afraid, we are not promised a life free of suffering, we will.  Can you imagine going after the bad guys just like in the movies?  Well, that is what Abram did and he got Lot back!  I know of a person who was abducted by a cult many years ago and her family searched and found her.  Another reason why we should never give up on anyone that has strayed from God.  Pray continuously for their return and be open to listen to what God is telling you to do. It may be something simple and, then again, it could be really hard.  How magnificent is the fact that God is our shield and our protector? He wants to bless us just as he did Abram. We must be willing to be open for the blessing and wait.

Apply:

This week try to be more patient with your family, your co-workers, standing in line at the store and driving.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, give me the patience of Job as I navigate this life of ours.  We want you to be in control and I will wait on the blessings.
