Detox: Week 3 - Pride - Day 2

Opening Prayer:

Lord, thank you for loving me even in my failures. Help me to live every day with a humble Spirit. May I reflect Christ Jesus in every way.  Amen.

Read: Proverbs 29:23 (NKJV)

“A man's Pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honor.”

Reflect:

What is the result of living in the spirit of humility?  In Proverbs 29, God's word tells us that we will "retain honor" (v. 23).  But the prideful man will eventually experience destruction (Proverbs 16:18). God loves us and wants the very best for us, his children. Throughout the Bible we see many scriptures about the consequences of pride and how it has a negative effect on our lives, even to the point of destruction.  God shows us a most extraordinary example of humility in the birth of his son Jesus.  Born in a stable not in a palace. Though he was a King, he was not born a king or to royalty but to common ordinary people.  His bed was a manger in a stable with straw and animals looking on.

Apply:

In Jonah 3:10, we see that because the Ninevites were obedient, believed in the word of the Lord and repented of their evil ways the Lord had compassion and did not bring destruction upon them. We too must remember that pride eventually brings destruction.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for your word.  Help me to be your obedient servant.  I pray that your Holy Spirit would guide my heart in all humility.  Amen.
