The Unfinished Life Perseveres, Doesn’t Quit - Day 2

Opening Prayer:

Lord, thank you for this day you have made. Thank you for the opportunity to sit with you and dive into your world. I pray I hear all you want me to hear and see all you want me to see. Thank you, Lord for loving me! It’s in the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Read: Hebrews 12:2 NIV

2 “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Reflect:

Growing up and through college, I played almost every sport there was. At every stage of my life there were different athletes I wanted to emulate on whatever stage I was on; the football field, the basketball court, and/or baseball diamond. These athletes were EXACTLY what I wanted to be and played how I wanted to play; from how they wore their uniforms, the way they put on eye-black, to how they chewed their gum. In everything they did, I wanted to be just like them. My eyes were fixed on them!

As a Christian, Jesus is the star player we want and need to “play like”. We need to focus on how he, as the man of Jesus Christ, loved, forgave, gave mercy, discipled, rebuked, spoke, listened, worshiped, etc. We need to focus on Jesus’ suffering to the extent of his death on the cross and, that because if his PERFECT faith, he overcame all suffering and shame…not just his, but yours and mine!!! Lastly, focus on the reward of all of this – a place setting at the right hand of the one and only Almighty God, your Lord and Savior, your Father.

Apply:

Quit living life as you want to. Live life as Jesus did remembering that the Bible tells us “he who is in you is greater than he who is in this world.” (1 John 4:4). Let your life be an example of what being a son or daughter, and imitator of God looks like. Ephesians 5:1-2 says, “Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank you sending the perfect example, the perfect “star player”. I pray for the corrected focus on him. Rid me of the eyesight that looks to the world and its players as an example for my life. Let me clearly see and stay focused on what Jesus did, his faith, his reward… YOU, Father! I pray in the perfect name of Jesus, Amen!!!
