The Parent Race: Week 1 - Day 1
Lord, thank you for today. I pray you will speak to me through your word. Open my mind and heart to your leading.
Read: Proverbs 1:8 (NIV)
“Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.”
Over the course of your life, how would you describe the relationship with your parents? Spend a few moments right now thinking about some of the highs and the lows of this relationship. Can you think of a time in which you chose not to follow your parent’s instructions? What were the consequences of that decision? Can you think of a time in which you sought their advice on a big decision? Was their wisdom that they offered helpful? The reality is that one of the main way parents love their children is by providing them instruction and teaching. Their instructions are extremely valuable to our journey through life. This proverb reminds us that, as a parent, we must provide sound instruction and as a child we are called to follow those instructions.
If possible contact one of your parents today and express gratitude for the positive impact they have had on your life. If you are a parent, spend some time today thinking about how you can be more intentional with your instructions to your children this week.
God, thank you for my family. Thank you for putting people in my life who love me enough to provide me direction and encouragement. Please help me in moments where I am trying to give Godly instruction to people in the context of my relationships.
