The Parent Race: Week 1 - Day 3

Opening Prayer:

Lord I want to seek after you today. Open my heart to hear your wisdom and help me apply it to my life.

Read: Proverbs 2:1-6

“My son, if you receive my words

and treasure up my commandments with you,

2 making your ear attentive to wisdom

and inclining your heart to understanding;

3 yes, if you call out for insight

and raise your voice for understanding,

4 if you seek it like silver

and search for it as for hidden treasures,

5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD

and find the knowledge of God.

6 For the LORD gives wisdom;

from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;”

Reflect:

God gives all of us these great promises for showing us how to find strength for the tough issues in our lives. If we seek God’s way as treasure, then He will give us wisdom, knowledge and understanding. As parents and grandparents, we need that at every turn. Everything from decisions about after school activities, discipline, homework, money management, and on and on fall back into our laps as leaders in our homes. God tells us to initiate the pursuit of him by reading his Word and listening to him through prayer and reflection. We are to seek God’s wisdom with the same energy and excitement as if we were mining for silver. Think how passionate we would be searching for treasure that could make us rich. But how much more valuable to know God’s opinions and direction in the everyday decisions we all make. Wow, do we ever need that to raise children in this complicated world we live in!

Apply:

Maybe you have never thought about seeking God in the area of parenting. Today, lay before him the most difficult issue in your family. Use a Bible search website on your computer like Biblegateway.com or use the concordance in the back of your Bible and begin to search for the topic you need answered. List out the verses you find and ask God to show you how to put them into practice with your children. God will give you the knowledge and understanding to tackle that problem your family is facing. Also, be willing to talk to other Christian parents or counselor as God’s wisdom will come to us in many different ways. He loves your family and cares deeply that you experience his joy and peace as a parent.

Closing Prayer:

Lord, I want to be led by you so that I can lead my family well. I trust that as I seek your ways, you will show me the direction I am to go. Thank you for your faithfulness and care you have shown my family. Amen
