The Parent Race: Week 1 - Day 5

Opening Prayer:

Lord, thank you for the gift of a new day.  Help me to seek you with my whole heart and be obedient to what you have for me this day.

Read: Proverbs 2:8 (NIV)

8  “for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.”

Reflect:

God continues to provide wise, practical advice throughout the book of Proverbs and the Bible.  He desires for us to apply it to our own lives. God, in his wisdom, continues to give us choices in our lives.  He spells out what will happen when we follow him….and when we choose not to.  Choose wisely. For when we choose to have God lead us, he guards and protects us. He desires what is best for his children.  As a parent, don’t we want that for our children as well?

Apply:

Begin today to model to your children where you receive your Godly wisdom. Let them see you while you are spending time in God’s word.

For young children: read them a story from the Bible and share together how they can apply it.
Middle School and High School:  challenge one another to memorize scripture together.
Older children or even live out of the house:  give them a call and in your conversation, share what you learned during your quiet time today.  Ask your children how you can pray for them and to encourage their time with the Lord.

Closing Prayer:

Dear heavenly Father, how I desire to choose wisely and follow you each day.   Help me to be a good role model for my children. Help me to seek you with my whole heart.  You promise that when I do, I will find you.   Keep our family on your course.  Thank you for your protection.  May we continue to grow in Godly wisdom as we seek you.
