Plot Twist: Week 6: Day 1

Opening Prayer:

As I come to you this week to be a wise manager of what you have given me, help me to work toward eternity to find meaning today.

Read: Luke 12:42 (NIV)

42 “The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time?”

Reflect:

Jesus had just explained that servants should be ever-ready and watchful for their master’s return, even at night! So, Peter asked: “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?” In other words, he was asking, does this apply to me?

The Lord’s answer is the beginning of the Parable of the Wise Manager, an instruction on taking care of what has been given to you and being ready for the master’s return. It’s good to remember that the Lord gives us our gifts, our talents, and people to care for. Sometimes it’s easy to think that what we have earned is ours, but the Bible tells us that every good and perfect gift is from above.

Apply:

Reflect on what is in your care; what you manage. Maybe this “manage” synonym list will prime your thinking: be in charge of, run, be head of, head, direct, control, preside over, lead, govern, rule, command, superintend, supervise, oversee, administer, organize, conduct, handle, take forward, guide, be at the helm of.

Closing Prayer:

Thank you, Lord for your gracious mercy and your many gifts. Help me to see what I am given to manage as a precious gift from you. Open my eyes to see and understand.
