Back to School: Sex Ed - Day 5
Oh Lord, help us to keep our mind on you and heaven no matter what!
Read: Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV)
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by, such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance, the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning it shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
There are many people that we can look up to, that are pillars of Christianity. It’s like they make it look so easy. I had the privilege to grow up in a church in a little town in Texas where my church was filled with such people. I remember stories from all the saints in my church on how I was to combat the “evil one”. I had to put on my armor daily. Armor? What armor? We must remember the helmet of salvation, belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shield of faith, sword of truth and the sandals of peace. Since there are two items of truth, what do you think God is telling us here? These people in my church talked about Jesus in everything they did bur they also “walked the walk”. Sometimes there are things in our lives that hinder us from walking hand-in-hand with Jesus. Maybe we need to put better restrictions on our electronics that control us and our children. Do we need to set aside family time and not sit our children in front of video games or movies on TV? I know several families here at Pathway that do not even have a TV! My school district just went One to One, which means every student gets a chrome book for the classroom. There were several families that opted out. Should we have GPS signaling on our teenagers’ phones? We know that evil lurks out there for us, he is roaming around trying to find someone to devour. Don’t let it be your family.
As you awaken first thing in the morning, remember to put on your Armor of God so you can battle the day. Ask God to awaken you to the things in life that hinder you from knowing and growing in Christ daily. Remember to read that scripture on your phone first before you return a text or an email.
God, help us to remember why we are here on earth and help us to fix our eyes on you and the promise of heaven.
